MLS Laser Heel Pain Treatment
Can MLS Laser Therapy Help Heel Pain?
Your feet endure tones of stress with each step you take. Your feet are designed to handle it, but much more stress can lead to pain and inflammation, especially of the heel. Heel pain is one of the most common issues affecting the foot and ankle.
Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis with MLS Laser Therapy
There are many treatments available for heel pain or plantar fasciitis, a condition that causes heel pain. Special exercises and physical therapy have proved helpful. But there is a new contemporary MLS LASER treatment that provides fast and effective relief and promotes healing for patients who suffer from chronic plantar fasciitis pain.
Anatomy
The plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue located on the bottom of the foot. It extends from the heel to the ball of the foot. The plantar fascia maintains the arch of the foot and takes most stress at walking, standing or running.
Causes
Plantar fasciitis is caused by structural problems in the foot. Plantar fasciitis results from small tears and inflammation in the wide band of tendons and ligaments that stretch from the heel to the ball of the foot. This band forms the arch of the foot and serves as a shock absorber for the body. Plantar fasciitis is characterized by pain at the bottom of the heel on weight bearing, particularly when first arising in the morning, and after prolonged periods of rest. People with flat feet have an extra long plantar fascia, and people with high arches have a short plantar fascia, which makes them prone to plantar fasciitis. Gait abnormalities can cause inflammation of the structures attached to the heel bone, resulting in heel pain. Sudden weight gain, obesity, or pregnancy and prolonged standing or walking on hard surfaces contributes to the condition. Many people with plantar fasciitis develop heel spurs. Heel spurs are abnormal bony growths that form under the heel and shows on the X-ray .
Progressive conservative treatment options for plantar fasciitis include rest, stretching, strengthening, massage, physical therapy, orthotics and shoe inserts, heel cups, night splints, plantar strapping, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), steroid and corticosteroid injections.
Recently, MLS Laser is effective contemporary modality in the treatment of chronic heel pain arising from plantar fasciitis. Low level MLS laser therapy (LLLT) offers a quick, painless, non-invasive, side-effect free alternative to relieve the debilitating pain of plantar fasciitis.
MLS Laser therapy has been found to be particularly effective over other standard therapies in relieving pain and other symptoms associated with chronic problems and injuries as it impacts the complete system of targeted muscles, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue, bone, nerve, and dermal tissues.
European Foot and Ankle Clinic successfully utilizes MLS LASER therapy for foot injuries like Plantar fasciitis or joint bursitis.
